Its origins date back to the 12th century, although the present building was rebuilt in 1580 following the destruction of the original church.<\/p>\n<p>The interior houses a rich artistic heritage, including the striking wooden ceiling featuring Paolo De Maio\u2019s painting of the Martyrdom of Saint Matthew, the altarpiece depicting the Madonna in Glory flanked by Saints Matthew and Andrew, and a precious 15th-century crucifix. To this day, the church remains at the heart of the religious and cultural life of the Bomerano community.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Interesting facts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Church of St Matthew overlooks Bomerano\u2019s main square and has been the community\u2019s meeting place for centuries. Le prime notizie risalgono al 1158, che la riportavano ubicata a sud-ovest dell\u2019antico abitato di Bomerano, uno dei quattro casali nei quali risultava suddivisa Agerola in epoca medievale.
