Over the centuries, it has been enlarged and enriched, becoming an important landmark for the local community from both a religious and historical perspective.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"742\" data-end=\"1236\">Inside, the church preserves a rich artistic heritage, including <strong data-start=\"807\" data-end=\"833\">16th-century paintings<\/strong>, fine <strong data-start=\"840\" data-end=\"861\">marble sculptures<\/strong>, and an exquisite <strong data-start=\"880\" data-end=\"922\">15th-century silver processional cross<\/strong>, one of the most valuable works of art housed in the church. Among its most significant masterpieces are the <strong data-start=\"1032\" data-end=\"1081\">Madonna of Mount Carmel (Madonna del Carmine)<\/strong>, the <strong data-start=\"1087\" data-end=\"1108\">Madonna and Child<\/strong>, and the <strong data-start=\"1118\" data-end=\"1155\">Chapel of Saint Anthony the Abbot<\/strong>, the patron saint of Agerola and a figure deeply revered by the local community.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1238\" data-end=\"1411\">Today, the church remains one of the principal symbols of Agerola&#8217;s faith and history, preserving an artistic and devotional heritage of great historical and cultural value.<\/p>\n<p data-section-id=\"1f33i26\" data-start=\"1413\" data-end=\"1430\"><strong>Did You Know?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1432\" data-end=\"1808\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">According to the historian <strong data-start=\"1459\" data-end=\"1476\">Matteo Camera<\/strong>, the churchyard of the <strong data-start=\"1500\" data-end=\"1537\">Church of Saint Peter the Apostle<\/strong> was the place where the representatives of Agerola&#8217;s ancient municipal administration gathered in centuries past.
