It was founded in <strong data-start=\"510\" data-end=\"518\">1623<\/strong> by <strong data-start=\"522\" data-end=\"551\">Baron Bartolomeo Brancati<\/strong> and served as the private chapel of the noble <strong data-start=\"598\" data-end=\"617\">Brancati family<\/strong>, patrons of the chapel. The Baron&#8217;s memorial plaque is still preserved inside the building.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"711\" data-end=\"1092\">According to local tradition, the family was connected to <strong data-start=\"769\" data-end=\"798\">Cardinal Lorenzo Brancati<\/strong>, one of the most distinguished Franciscan theologians of the 17th century. Although historical records identify him as a native of <strong data-start=\"930\" data-end=\"940\">Lauria<\/strong> in Basilicata rather than Agerola, the strong ties between the Brancati family and the village gave rise to the belief that he was of Agerolese origin.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1094\" data-end=\"1401\">Known as <em data-start=\"1103\" data-end=\"1174\">&#8220;the Franciscan from Basilicata who came within reach of the papacy,&#8221;<\/em> Cardinal Lorenzo Brancati maintained close connections with the Brancati family of Agerola. It is believed that members of the family settled in the region, creating a lasting bond between the Cardinal and the local community.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1403\" data-end=\"1565\">Today, the chapel remains a valuable testimony to Agerola&#8217;s religious, artistic and noble heritage, preserving the memory of one of its most influential families.<\/p>\n<p data-section-id=\"n35o31\" data-start=\"1572\" data-end=\"1592\"><span role=\"text\"><strong data-start=\"1575\" data-end=\"1592\">Did You Know?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1594\" data-end=\"2105\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Inside the chapel are preserved two remarkable masterpieces from <strong data-start=\"1659\" data-end=\"1680\">Golden Age Naples<\/strong>. The first is a painting of the <strong data-start=\"1713\" data-end=\"1778\">Holy Family with Saint Anne, Saint Joachim and God the Father<\/strong>, created in <strong data-start=\"1791\" data-end=\"1799\">1664<\/strong> by the Sicilian painter <strong data-start=\"1824\" data-end=\"1843\">Michele Ragolia<\/strong>.
