Following gentle paths flanked by spectacular cliffs and passing through various gorges, the trail offers unrivalled views of Positano, the Sorrento Peninsula, the Galli islets and Capri. After approximately <strong data-start=\"136\" data-end=\"150\">300 metres<\/strong>, at a series of stone steps, turn right and cross a wooden bridge.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"219\" data-end=\"426\">Continue uphill along the staircase until you reach a paved road. Turn left and follow it until it becomes a concrete mule track. After a bend descending downhill, you will arrive at <strong data-start=\"402\" data-end=\"425\">Grotta del Biscotto<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"428\" data-end=\"674\">The route continues along a dirt path with gentle ascents and descents, leading to <strong data-start=\"511\" data-end=\"534\">Colle la Serra Pass<\/strong> (580 m). Near the ruins of an old building, the trail splits into two equally scenic alternatives that rejoin later at <strong data-start=\"654\" data-end=\"665\">Cannati<\/strong> (560 m):<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"676\" data-end=\"1109\">\n<li data-section-id=\"1sdtup5\" data-start=\"676\" data-end=\"820\"><strong data-start=\"678\" data-end=\"702\">Upper Route (right):<\/strong> begins with a rougher section but rewards hikers with views of ancient <strong data-start=\"774\" data-end=\"788\">lime kilns<\/strong>, once used for lime production.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"e4nmzp\" data-start=\"821\" data-end=\"1109\"><strong data-start=\"823\" data-end=\"846\">Lower Route (left):<\/strong> starts with a descent and includes several exposed sections. Along this path, a junction on the left leads down to the picturesque <strong data-start=\"978\" data-end=\"1005\">Convent of San Domenico<\/strong> and then to <strong data-start=\"1018\" data-end=\"1038\">Vettica Maggiore<\/strong>. This option is recommended for those wishing to enjoy a shorter hike.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1111\" data-end=\"1311\">From <strong data-start=\"1116\" data-end=\"1127\">Cannati<\/strong>, the trail continues through a series of gentle ups and downs, crossing the <strong data-start=\"1204\" data-end=\"1223\">Gradelle Valley<\/strong> before reaching the hamlet of <strong data-start=\"1254\" data-end=\"1265\">Nocella<\/strong> (420 m) after approximately <strong data-start=\"1294\" data-end=\"1310\">2 kilometres<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1313\" data-end=\"1524\">At the small chapel depicting the Crucifixion and the nearby fountain, turn right and follow the narrow lane until it joins the main road, which leads to the village of <strong data-start=\"1482\" data-end=\"1498\">Montepertuso<\/strong> in about <strong data-start=\"1508\" data-end=\"1523\">1 kilometre<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1526\" data-end=\"1646\">About <strong data-start=\"1532\" data-end=\"1546\">100 metres<\/strong> beyond the village square, a staircase on the left descends directly to the centre of <strong data-start=\"1633\" data-end=\"1645\">Positano<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1648\" data-end=\"1978\">Alternatively, from <strong data-start=\"1668\" data-end=\"1679\">Nocella<\/strong>, you can follow the famous staircase of approximately <strong data-start=\"1734\" data-end=\"1749\">1,700 steps<\/strong> leading down to <strong data-start=\"1766\" data-end=\"1777\">Arienzo<\/strong>, on the former <strong data-start=\"1793\" data-end=\"1826\">State Road 163 (Amalfi Drive)<\/strong>. Turning right and following the road for about <strong data-start=\"1875\" data-end=\"1889\">500 metres<\/strong> (<strong data-start=\"1891\" data-end=\"1929\">please be aware of vehicle traffic<\/strong>), you will arrive in the centre of <strong data-start=\"1965\" data-end=\"1977\">Positano<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"1p48v6k\" data-start=\"1980\" data-end=\"2002\"><span role=\"text\"><strong data-start=\"1984\" data-end=\"2002\">Return Journey<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2004\" data-end=\"2310\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">To return to <strong data-start=\"2017\" data-end=\"2028\">Agerola<\/strong>, you can take a <strong data-start=\"2045\" data-end=\"2057\">SITA bus<\/strong> from Positano, changing buses in <strong data-start=\"2091\" data-end=\"2101\">Amalfi<\/strong>. During the summer months, another enjoyable option is to travel by sea to Amalfi using the <strong data-start=\"2194\" data-end=\"2212\">Metro del Mare<\/strong> (Sea Metro) service or one of the regular ferry connections, before continuing to Agerola by bus.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-6\" style=\"color:#606060;margin-top:45px;\"><h2><strong data-start=\"154\" data-end=\"189\">Highlights &amp; Points of Interest<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-7\" style=\"text-align:justify;color:#494949;\"><p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-start=\"43\" data-end=\"518\">The impressive rock face of <strong data-start=\"71\" data-end=\"94\">Grotta del Biscotto<\/strong> is composed of ancient cemented debris dating back to the <strong data-start=\"153\" data-end=\"170\">late Pliocene<\/strong>. These deposits originated from <strong data-start=\"203\" data-end=\"222\">Monte Tre Calli<\/strong> and from a mountain that once stood to the south before gradually sinking due to tectonic activity during the formation of the <strong data-start=\"350\" data-end=\"369\">Gulf of Salerno<\/strong>. Beyond this point, the trail crosses <strong data-start=\"408\" data-end=\"450\">Jurassic marine limestone and dolomite<\/strong>, geological formations that accompany hikers for much of the route.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"520\" data-end=\"1011\">Below the trail at <strong data-start=\"539\" data-end=\"562\">Grotta del Biscotto<\/strong>, visitors can admire a series of cave dwellings believed to have originally served as hermit cells for the anchorites who, during the Early Middle Ages, were connected to the nearby <strong data-start=\"745\" data-end=\"772\">Church of Santa Barbara<\/strong>. A short distance further on stands the ruin of an ancient farmhouse dramatically perched on the edge of a rocky spur. Other fine examples of traditional rural architecture can be found at <strong data-start=\"962\" data-end=\"980\">Colle la Serra<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"982\" data-end=\"993\">Cannati<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"999\" data-end=\"1010\">Nocella<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1013\" data-end=\"1501\">The landscape also bears witness to centuries of human activity through its remarkable <strong data-start=\"1100\" data-end=\"1125\">agricultural terraces<\/strong>, supported by traditional <strong data-start=\"1152\" data-end=\"1171\">dry-stone walls<\/strong>. Where still cultivated, these terraces are home to pergola vineyards producing the renowned <strong data-start=\"1265\" data-end=\"1283\">&#8220;heroic wines&#8221;<\/strong> of the Amalfi Coast. At lower elevations, visitors will find lemon groves that produce the famous <strong data-start=\"1382\" data-end=\"1434\">Amalfi Sfusato Lemon (Limone Costa d&#8217;Amalfi PGI)<\/strong>, the essential ingredient of the area&#8217;s celebrated <strong data-start=\"1486\" data-end=\"1500\">Limoncello<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1503\" data-end=\"1954\">The route also showcases the transition between different Mediterranean ecosystems. The mixed woodlands of the upper <strong data-start=\"1620\" data-end=\"1636\">Praia Valley<\/strong>, particularly on the north-eastern slopes, gradually give way to evergreen holm oak forests, Mediterranean scrub and rocky garrigue vegetation. During spring, the trail is enriched by colourful blooms, including the endemic <strong data-start=\"1861\" data-end=\"1874\">Santolina<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1876\" data-end=\"1886\">Myrtle<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1888\" data-end=\"1924\">white and pink Rockrose (Cistus)<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1926\" data-end=\"1935\">Broom<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"1941\" data-end=\"1953\">Rosemary<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1956\" data-end=\"2532\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">The true highlight of this hike, however, is the extraordinary landscape itself. A continuous succession of cliffs, rocky pinnacles, ledges and deep gorges creates one of the most spectacular settings of the <strong data-start=\"2164\" data-end=\"2180\">Amalfi Coast<\/strong>. Around every bend, hikers are rewarded with breathtaking panoramas: sweeping views of the dramatic coastline from <strong data-start=\"2296\" data-end=\"2308\">Positano<\/strong> to <strong data-start=\"2312\" data-end=\"2332\">Punta Campanella<\/strong>, with the island of <strong data-start=\"2353\" data-end=\"2362\">Capri<\/strong> rising in the background, alongside unique bird&#8217;s-eye views of picturesque villages, secluded bays and rugged headlands that make this stretch of coastline world-famous.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-builder-row
