Description

The stunning view of the Amalfi Coast captivates the eye as you walk along the gently sloping path that leads from Piazza Generale Avitabile to the entrance of the Parco della Colonia Montana. Three hectares of parkland sit like a terrace overlooking the coast, offering a panoramic view of the whole of Agerola, against which Monte Tre Pizzi stands out imposingly. The viewpoint is situated on the site where General Avitabile’s palace once stood; between 1937 and 1939, the ‘Principe di Napoli’ Colonia Montana was built on its ruins, serving as a summer camp for young people under the Fascist regime, in the shadow of two imposing works of art by the famous Futurist sculptor Eros Pellini, known as ‘Regia Aeronautica Militare’ and ‘Corpo degli Alpini’. We recommend the spot behind the former infirmary building, from which you can see the Furore Fjord, a narrow stretch of water at the mouth of a steep-sided valley, carved out by the ceaseless work of the Schiato stream, which flows from Agerola down the mountainside until it plunges into the sea.
