Description

The Church of Saint Peter the Apostle is one of the oldest and most important places of worship in Agerola, although its origins have not been precisely documented. Over the centuries, it has been enlarged and enriched, becoming an important landmark for the local community from both a religious and historical perspective.

Inside, the church preserves a rich artistic heritage, including 16th-century paintings, fine marble sculptures, and an exquisite 15th-century silver processional cross, one of the most valuable works of art housed in the church. Among its most significant masterpieces are the Madonna of Mount Carmel (Madonna del Carmine), the Madonna and Child, and the Chapel of Saint Anthony the Abbot, the patron saint of Agerola and a figure deeply revered by the local community.

Today, the church remains one of the principal symbols of Agerola’s faith and history, preserving an artistic and devotional heritage of great historical and cultural value.
