Description

The Church of St Martin the Bishop, situated in the hamlet of Campora, is one of the oldest and most significant religious buildings in Agerola. Built before the 15th century and restored following the 1980 earthquake, it has for centuries been an important focal point for the religious and social life of the community.

The interior, characterised by a single nave, houses works of great artistic value, including a precious canvas by the Neapolitan painter Mozzilli, embellished with decorations attributed to Panarelli, and the monumental tomb of General Paolo Avitabile, a famous citizen of Agerola. Over the centuries, the church has been extended and enriched with chapels, altars and works of art that bear witness to its long history and the deep devotion of the local community.

Saint Martin is remembered for the famous act of sharing his cloak with a poor man. For this reason, he is regarded as a symbol of charity, solidarity and care for those most in need.
